March 2015

Dear friends,

My hearty congratulations go to all those who picked up an accolade during the recent movie awards season. Boyhood won the BAFTAs for best director and best film, while Birdman won those same categories at the Oscars. These films as well as The Grand Budapest Hotel and Whiplash have done particularly well at these and other awards ceremonies such as The Golden Globes.

I, personally, was delighted to see Eddie Redmayne win best actor at both the BAFTAs and Oscars – for his portrayal of Stephen Hawking in The Theory of Everything. During his performance, I forgot I was looking at Eddie Redmayne and thought I was actually watching Professor Hawking himself. Wonderful stuff.

And scooping up best actress awards all season long has been Julianne Moore. She won the BAFTA and Oscar for her performance as a woman suffering from early onset Alzheimer's disease in the drama Still Alice – which opens this month in the UK. She is also in the new fantasy adventure Seventh Son. Brief details on these movies and a host of others can be found in my latest newsletter: Big Films Monthly – March 2015 edition.

As usual, if you are intending to venture out to the cinema in the next month or so, I hope you have a great time; and that the films you are seeing meet your expectations. Happy viewing!
